Maritza Rodriguez is one of the top performers and instructors of latin dancing in the state of Oklahoma. Having performed in major cities of the United States, she has acquired a deep understanding of Salsa, Merengue, Bachata and Cha-Cha-Cha, which allowed her to advance professionally and expand her repertoire.
She began her dance education with Casino Rueda taught by the MIT Casino Rueda team, and salsa with Jamnastics taught by the internationally known Andres Giraldo (Salsa Y Control) in Boston, MA. After moving to Dallas, TX she joined the professional dance company Salsa Passion directed by the famous Joel Dominguez (NYC) and Jessica Cantu.
Salsa Maritza co-founded the Latin Dance Club at the University of Oklahoma and created the professional dance team Explosion Salsera. She is currently the director of a new Amateur dance team Chispa Salsera.
Maritza was born in Texas surrounded by latin music and social dancing. She acquired a structural understanding of music through piano playing starting at the age of 4, and later learned to play the trombone by the age of 12. In high school, she co-captained her nationally ranked high school cheerleading team and was also a member of her local All-Star Cheerleading team..
At MIT, she was the captain and coach of the cheerleading team, performing at football and basketball games. As an MIT undergraduate, Maritza also discovered the fascinating world of professional latin dancing. Combining her passion for teaching and her love of dance, she began bringing joy to others by instructing them in this magnificent art form.
